Description A one-year 25 week course for licensed mental health professionals encompassing didactic material and clinical case discussions. The aim is to develop the understanding and clinical skills needed to practice intensive psychotherapy, further knowledge of psychoanalytic theory and technique, and offer a bridge to psychoanalytic training.

Graduates of PANYu2019s Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Fellowship Programs, or comparable programs at other Institutes, mental health clinicians with at least two years of psychodynamic therapy experience, and candidates admitted to the Psychoanalytic Training Program who need an additional preparatory year.

Description PANY offers advanced training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. This two-year program enhances the knowledge and skills of clinicians through their own personal treatment, clinical and theoretical seminars, and weekly individualized case supervision. The program is staffed by PANYu2019s psychoanalytic faculty. Successful completion of the program leads to a certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Training. Continuing education credit is available.

Psychoanalytic Training Edit

Description Psychoanalytic education is an intensive program which integrates three essential components: seminars in the theory and practice of psychoanalysis, which require four years to complete; supervised psychoanalytic treatment of patients; and a personal psychoanalysis. PANY offers training in Adult Psychoanalysis and Child & Adolescent Psychoanalysis. PANY is a member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and the American Association for Psychoanalytic Education (AAPE). Applicants hold a terminal degree in their field (MD and DO psychiatrists and residents, PhD and PsyD clinical psychologists, LCSW or DSW clinical social workers, and NP Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners); or enter a licensed psychoanalyst program track, which enables PANY to offer psychoanalytic training to Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCAT) or other clinically experienced licensed mental health professionals.

Description For those who seek a comprehensive understanding of emotional life, The Institute at the Psychoanalytic Association of New York offers training programs in child and adult treatment that provide insight into core human dilemmas.

Requirements For whom? Not all potential applicants meet the New York State Education Department (NYSED) criteria to practice psychoanalysis. The Institute at PANY is designated by NYSED as a licensure qualifying program for those whose degrees or licenses do not permit psychoanalytic practice. This includes mental health professionals with a New York State license that does not include psychoanalysis, such as LMHC, LMFT, and LCAT. Professionals who anticipate obtaining a license to practice psychoanalysis during training may also apply, including LMSWs, and MDs awaiting green cards.
